A warehouse reorganisation at Leader Distribution has freed enough space for the national and global distribution and storage specialist to install a Thorworld loading bay ramp; reducing costs and limiting handling time.
Operating from two major warehouses midway between Manchester and Leeds, Leader wanted to secure new international business, but without specific loading apparatus in place couldn’t handle the account directly. Transport carriers were needed to deliver parcels and pallets, and freight forwarders to unload and transport shipments, then unload at Leader using hand and pallet trucks.
Norman Smith, Leader Distribution’s managing director made warehouse space available, and visited an up-and-running Thorworld ramp at a neighbouring firm. Impressed, he ordered a Thorworld hydraulic system ramp, featuring a serrated open grid deck, and double acting manual handpump – to allow positive traction in all weather conditions – and a full width, 300mm deep exit lip to assist vehicle and trailers positioning.
With 300mm side rails, and 1.8m of safety chain on each side, the ramp is safe, secure and noticeably enabling.
“We’re delighted,” Smith says. “We’re now able to provide services to a new international client that brings palletised goods into the UK in containers, and can offer the same to others.”
