HSE appoints new chief executive

Sarah Albon, HSA Chief Executive

The Health and Safety Executive has appointed Sarah Albon as its new chief executive.

Ms Albon, currently inspector general and chief executive of the Insolvency Service, will join the HSE on 1 September.

She will replace outgoing acting chief executive David Snowball who has held the post since June 2018 and will be retiring from the HSE at the end of the year.

Ms Albon joined the Insolvency Service in February 2015. Previous roles include director of strategy and change at Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal Service and two roles at the Ministry of Justice, director of civil family and legal aid policy, and deputy director of criminal legal aid strategy. She also served as principal private secretary to two Lord Chancellors.

She said her focus at HSE would be to continue to improve health and safety “as workplaces move into a future with new challenges, new technologies and new opportunities”.

HSE chair Martin Temple said: “Sarah’s valuable experience in leading organisations through change and planning for the future will stand her in good stead.”

The appointment was made following an open recruitment process.
