Boiler aftercare specialist JBC celebrates 40 years

JBC Industrial Services is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its foundation by John Bashall with the vision of providing the customer with a one-stop shop.

It has gained a national reputation, having provided four decades of service to the industrial boiler and burner market, across every industry sector from food manufacturing to pharmaceuticals and luxury car makers.

Mr Bashall became interested in boilers during his electrical apprenticeship and then joined Thompson Cochran boilers at the age of 21. Initially he was one of two commissioning engineers in the Yorkshire area, and later transferred to the servicing side.

He began to think of starting his own business,. A loan from the bank combined with some savings provided enough to buy a car and support his family for three months, and on 1 June 1978 John Bashall Combustions was born. The first customer was Seabrook Crisps, whom JBC still looks after today.

Its first premises were a small shop and office in Stanningley, Leeds. The company grew, and started to take on skilled personnel. Renamed JBC Industrial Services, it developed a strong reputation in the steam and combustion markets for servicing and maintenance, expanding the range of services to include statutory boiler inspections, repairs, pipework, turnkey installations and energy efficiency solutions.

This formula was replicated in several regional offices, allowing for national coverage by mobile service engineers, boiler maintenance teams and mechanical operatives.

JBC’s technical knowledge of the steam sector, experience in the boiler house and proven industry ability strengthened the company’s role as a leading industrial aftercare provider in the UK.

John Bashall retired from the business in 2014, leaving it in the hands of his son and chairman, Jamie Bashall, and managing director, Geoff Sutcliffe, although his expertise is still often called upon today in an advisory and consultation capacity.
