Some of Humidity Solutions’ customers have asked if there is any additive that they can introduce into their humidifier system to help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus. The simple answer is no, there isn’t an additive, but all the scientific data shows that maintaining a humidity of 50%RH will reduce the transmission of viruses in general by keeping the body’s defence mechanism (the mucous membrane in the nose and throat) moist and able to capture the virus before it enters the body.
In addition, the virus will not live as long on surfaces in a humidity-controlled environment.
Advice is to ensure that your humidifier is maintained to the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you don’t currently have a humidifier in your office or factory, now may be a time to consider this additional benefit of humidity control, over and above human and thermal comfort and production/environmental stability.
