UKLA and HSE update guidance on handling metalworking fluids

An updated version of the UKLA Good Practice Guide for the Safe Handling and Disposal of Metalworking Fluids has been launched.

Produced in partnership by the United Kingdom Lubricants Association and the Health & Safety Executive, the guide aims to keep users up to date with the latest developments supporting safe management and disposal of metalworking fluids.

Improvements to the revised version of the guide include an updated introductory section on the requirement for occupational health surveillance for those working with metalworking fluids, aligned with current HSE guidance, and improved guidance statements on managing the fluids based on peer review and user feedback on the first version of this guide. The guide also includes additional advice and illustrations to assist those undertaking checks on the quality of the fluids.

The publication can be downloaded from the UKLA website or contact your fluid supplier for more details.

UKLA in collaboration with the Chemical Hazards Communication Society is running a webinar, including an outline of the guidance and key control measures.
