Make UK forms partnership to help vet supply chains

Manufacturers’ organisation Make UK has formed a partnership with Alcumus SafeContractor to support manufacturers using contractors and to help in reducing workplace accidents. The partnership will also cover factors beyond health and safety which manufacturers increasingly need to consider.

Manufactures regularly employ contractors for their specialist expertise to get to market faster and more efficiently. However, the use of contractors has inherent risks, says Make UK. In addition, manufacturers increasingly need to consider compliance beyond health and safety, to include environmental factors, quality, finance, GDPR, and to ensure that their supply chains are free from modern slavery.

The partnership between Make UK and SafeContractor is designed to help British manufacturers overcome these challenges. It will provide members with the health and safety and ethical vetting of their supply chain to minimise the risks to individuals and their business.

“Health and safety managers are becoming increasingly stretched as their role increases in scope, urgency and importance. Procurement functions get frustrated as supply chains become more complex, making it harder to manage and demonstrate compliance. Finding the right people for the job can be a huge admin burden,” said Alcumus SafeContractor managing director Gemma Archibald. “The SafeContractor online portal enables organisations to manage and source the best contractors to minimise risks and transform their supply chain.”

Make UK health, safety and sustainability director Andrew Ward said: “Through the partnership we can provide our members with the tools to comply with legislation and reduce the risks associated when working with contractors. The efficiencies derived from access to thousands of accredited contractors offers members a route to get to market faster, more efficiently and more economically than their rivals.”

Free access to Safe Contractor’s services is included as part of the subscription to Make UK’s health and safety membership support package.
